The Obesity Policy Coalition (OPC) website is administered by Cancer Council Victoria.

Cancer Council Victoria respects your privacy, and takes reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information remains confidential and is only used for appropriate purposes and in accordance with this policy.

Cancer Council Victoria takes reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification, improper disclosure or unauthorised destruction. We also take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information no longer needed. We apply generally accepted standards of technology and operational security to keep personal information secure.

This privacy statement covers all personal information held by us that is collected through the OPC website, including any information about an individual whose identity is apparent or can be reasonably ascertained from that information.

  • enable you to participate in an OPC campaign
  • send you the OPC newsletter
  • provide you with information about the OPC's activities or obesity-prevention issues, and
  • respond to your enquiries or comments.

If you do not provide your personal information, you may not be able to participate in OPC campaigns or activities or receive the information set out above, and we may not be able to respond to your enquiries or comments.

How we collect personal information

We collect your personal information if you provide it to us. You may provide your personal information to us in a number of ways, including:

  • when you sign up to participate in an OPC campaign, to receive the OPC newsletter or to receive information about OPC activities or obesity-prevention issues, and
  • when you make a comment or enquiry via the OPC website.

How we keep personal information secure

Cancer Council Victoria takes reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification, improper disclosure or unauthorised destruction. We also take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information no longer needed. We apply generally accepted standards of technology and operational security to keep personal information secure.

If you provide us with your personal information, it's securely stored in our databases, which are accessed only by authorised staff. All hard copy data is disposed of appropriately when no longer needed.

By using this website, you agree that Cancer Council Victoria does not provide any warranties or assurances in relation to security of personal information, and Cancer Council Victoria accepts no liability for any breach of security or unintended loss or disclosure of your personal information.

Using and disclosing personal information

We will only use any personal information that we collect about you for the purpose for which it was collected, unless:

  • the use is for a related purpose, and you would reasonably expect Cancer Council Victoria to use the information for that purpose, or
  • you have consented to use of the personal information for another purpose, or
  • the information is not sensitive and the use of the information is for our direct marketing, for example, information about our events or campaigns, and you have not opted out of receiving communications from us.

We will not use your personal information for any other purpose or disclose it to a third party unless you have provided your consent or if required by law.
