Cancer Council Victoria's core business is cancer control. The Cancer Council conducts and supports research, as well as delivering statewide support and prevention programs and advocacy to reduce the physical and emotional burden of cancer. Its leaders are of international standing and we are significantly and positively influencing the cancer agenda in Victoria and beyond.
Diabetes Australia - Victoria is the peak consumer body representing people with diabetes in Victoria and providing vital support and information to the community about diabetes. The purpose of DAV is to minimise the impact of diabetes in the community, to help all people affected by diabetes, and to contribute to the search for a cure.
The World Health Organization awarded Deakin University official ‘Collaborating Centre' status in 2004. Professor Boyd Swinburn is the coordinator. A major component is the Sentinel Site for Obesity Prevention which grew out of the urgent need to build the evidence on effective strategies for reducing the growing epidemic of obesity. The SSOP is currently involved in supporting three intervention programs in the region. Each demonstration site has a project focus to build community capacity, provide a multi-strategy and multi-setting intervention program, provide monitoring indicators and conduct a thorough evaluation.
The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation, best known as VicHealth, is a world leader in health promotion. It partners with a diverse array of organisations, communities and individuals to facilitate projects and programs that promote good health and wellbeing, and prevent ill health. VicHealth contributes to public policy, strategy and advocacy in the area of health and wellbeing and auspices in-house and funded research. It also runs campaigns aimed at educating individual Victorians to make lifestyle decisions that impact positively on their health. The organisation is globally known for its innovation and success in social, environmental and behavioural change.
